Musara’s areas of research are development and health communication with interests in how directed social change intersects with strategic communication. Current research focuses on participation of people living with HIV in social change communication for HIV prevention, an aspect that has only recently been acknowledged in HIV prevention communication. He has reviewed journal articles and has presented papers and chaired sessions at various national and international conferences. Musara has supervised above 20 Honours research projects in Development, Culture and Communication as well as Communication for Participatory Development. He is currently lecturing Public Relations at Durban University of Technology and is also a visiting lecturer at SIT Study Abroad Program, Durban.
