Eliza Govender (PhD) is a senior lecturer at the Centre for Communication, Media and Society (CCMS), University of KwaZulu-Natal. She teaches research methodology and social change and health communication. Her research interests include entertainment education, social and behavioural change communication and participatory methodologies to HIV prevention and implementation science research.

Her specific interests centres on the use of a participatory action research approach (PAR) to understand the accessibility and uptake of new biomedical innovations for HIV prevention among adolescent girls and women. Govender is recipient of the Thuthuka grant that explores user Readiness for oral Pre-exposure Prophylaxis: Strengthening HIV prevention efforts in the high HIV disease burden district of Umgungundlovu, KwaZulu-Natal. She is also a co-investigator on the CAP084 oral PrEP demonstration projects and acceptability studies. She has also been guest editor for two special editions of the African Communication Research journals in HIV Communication in Africa (2010) and Entertainment Education in Africa (2014).
