Basil worked as a print media journalist and a Lecturer at the University of Zambia’s Department of Mass Communication. He edited the Lusaka Star to which he still occasionally contributes. Basil’s research areas include advertising and the public sphere, political economy of media, political communication and media ownership, sustainability and regulation in Zambia. His PhD is on advertising and the free press in Zambia. He has written about the history of Zambian advertising in the Handbook of Media in Zambia. He likes to play chess during his free time.
