Emmanuel Essel, is a Ghanaian PhD candidate at the University of Kwa-Zulu-Natal, Centre for Communication, Media & Society, Durban, South Africa. His research interest centres on development communication from a critical cultural perspective. His primary area of research is health communication with an emphasis on how community radio can be used to facilitate an improvement in the health statuses of members of poor and marginalised communities. His Masters dissertation focussed on employing community radio for community development in the Central Region of Ghana. He is also interested in issues of new media and community development. Additionally, Emmanuel is an astute Sports Broadcast Journalist and have worked with numerous television, print and radio stations back in his native Ghana. Mr Essel is a member of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana.
