Entrance Qualifications

First Year: (Coursework in Media Studies) Honours Equivalent
Entry is any Bachelor’s degree in any subject. Consideration will be
given to applicants whose final mark at the undergraduate level is above
65%. (UKZN standards will be the benchmark in assessing grades secured
at other institutions.)

Second Year: (Coursework in Media Studies) Masters
Consideration will be given to applicants whose final mark at the
Honours level is above 65%.   Module credits can be earned by students
determining their own points of entry and exit.

Selection Procedure
All applications are considered by a CCMS Selection Committee. Amongst
the criteria applied for selection are those listed in “Choosing a
Programme” (loose document sent to all applicants) as well as past
student performance, quality of motivation, clarity of objectives, CV
and the student’s conceptual integration into CCMS research and teaching
programmes.  For MA and Ph.D only full-time students are considered.

Admission to Status
It is necessary for students who graduated at other Universities to be
admitted to status at this University before embarking on graduate
studies.  An “Application for Admission to Status” form needs to be
completed.  Students who do not qualify for ordinary admission to status
may be admitted under University Rule 33 that enables the Senate to
consider special conditions.
