Maractho’s primary research focus is in the area of media, democracy and development (gender and women’s studies). She is trained in multi-method research, and has conducted “policy-engaged research”, as well as participated in policy making in Uganda. She has taught for several years at Makerere University and Uganda Christian University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Communication and Media Studies at the Centre for Communication, Media and Society (CCMS) University of KwaZulu Natal. The focus of her doctoral thesis is “media, women and public life interconnections” in Uganda with specific reference to representation, interaction, engagement; and the implications for women’s participation in public life. She loves taking photographs, cooking, and reading poetry. She enjoys Ethiopian coffee, Kenyan tea, Italian Gnocchi, Nigeria’s egusi soup and Uganda’s sweet potatoes with anything meaty.
